DOSIsoft’s condolences on the loss of Mrs Andrée Dutreix

DOSIsoft was saddened to hear that Mrs Andrée Dutreix passed away on Sunday, October 29 on the Island of Yeu in France. We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the family and the relatives of Mrs. Dutreix. May her soul rest in peace.

Andrée Dutreix had a major importance in the birth and development of medical physics in France. Her contribution to medical physics has been widely recognized nationally and internationally. She received the French Legion of Honor in 1981 and was promoted to Officer grade in 2009. Among other distinctions, she received the prestigious Breur Award from ESTRO in 1984, was named an honorary member of the AAPM in 1991 and received the Antoine Béclère prize in 1993. One of the cancer institute in Dunquerque, inaugurated in her presence in 2013, bears her name.

In the early times of external beam radiation therapy, she was involved in the first protocols for reference dose definition and published the foundation articles on the notion of “precision in radiotherapy”. She was a great pioneer and at the origin in France of computer-based medical physics with the early DOSIGRAY software, that became the first treatment planning system (TPS), later transformed and marketed by DOSIsoft under the name of ISOgray^®.

She also played a very important role in the creation of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) in 1980 with which she worked closely and today, DOSIsoft is part of its corporate members.

C’est avec grande tristesse que nous avons appris à DOSIsoft le décès de Madame Andrée Dutreix, survenu le dimanche 29 octobre à l’Ile d’Yeu. Toute l’équipe de DOSIsoft adresse ses plus sincères condoléances à la famille et aux proches de Mme Dutreix. Que son âme repose en paix.

Andrée Dutreix a eu une importance majeure dans la naissance et le développement de la physique médicale en France. Son apport à la physique médicale a été largement reconnu au niveau national et international : elle a été nommée chevalier de la légion d’honneur en 1981, puis promue officier en 2009. Entre autres distinctions, elle a reçu le prestigieux Breur Award de l’ESTRO en 1984, été nommée membre honoraire de l’AAPM en 1991, a reçu la médaille Antoine Béclère en 1993. Un institut de cancérologie de Dunkerque inauguré en sa présence en 2013 porte son nom. 

Sur le plan scientifique et en radiothérapie externe, elle s’est impliquée dans les premiers protocoles de détermination de la dose de référence et a publié des articles princeps sur la notion de précision en radiothérapie. Elle a été un grand précurseur à l’origine en France de l’informatisation de la physique médicale avec le logiciel DOSIGRAY, ce dernier est devenu ultérieurement le premier système de planification de traitement (TPS) commercialisé par DOSIsoft sous le nom de ISOgray^®.

Elle a joué un rôle très important dans la création en 1980 de l’European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) avec laquelle elle a étroitement collaboré, et DOSIsoft y fait partie des membres aujourd’hui.
