OCELLE : Software tools for the processor CELL as an example for embedded systems.
The project aims to increase computation speed thanks to several levels of parallelization on the CELL processor (developed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba). Through technology transfer, DOSIsoft demonstrates growing industrial presence in oncology imaging. Towards a better control of radiotherapy treatment, which represents a key improvement for patient recovery, DOSIsoft investigates numerous solutions that could benefit from reduced computation times:
Registration and fusion of 3D multimodal images for better estimation of the volume of tumors and of some specific organs,
Automatic segmentation of structures based on anatomical atlases,
Fast Monte Carlo dose calculation,
Real-time configuration of irradiation beams to the actual patient position.
Concerning Monte Carlo dosimetry, within the MAESTRO project (PCRD6: University of Barcelona – CEA – DOSIsoft), the implementation of optimized algorithms by reduction of variance will divide computation time by 130. The OCELLE project will contribute to further reduce this time by a factor of 10.
